Most dog clothing is cut to a fairly generic template — one that works reasonably well for a lot of dogs, but was never designed with our dogs in mind. Staffies and Bully breeds have a genuinely different shape: broad, deep chests, thick muscular necks, short backs, and powerful shoulders that taper to a much narrower waist.

Off-the-shelf sizing that fits the chest is often enormous at the waist and neck. Sizing that fits the neck will never go over the chest. The result is clothing that pulls, rubs, restricts movement, or simply won't fasten at all.

These dogs aren't a variation on a standard dog shape — they're a different shape entirely. And the standard sizing in every pet shop was never designed for them.

You need three measurements:

Neck circumference — measured just below where the collar sits.
Chest circumference — measured around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
Back length — measured along the spine from the base of the neck to where the back meets the tail.

Use a soft tape measure held directly against the body — touching but not pressing. Always follow the contours of your dog's shape rather than pulling the tape in a straight line. A full guide with a detailed diagram is available on the measurement guide page.

Because sizing is only as accurate as the data behind it.

Staffies and Bully breeds share a common build: wide chest, thick neck, muscular shoulders, relatively short back. But within that family, there's real variation. Different breeds carry their weight differently.

Generic sizing ignores all of that. It picks a middle ground that fits nobody particularly well. We're doing the opposite — collecting real measurements from real dogs so that if we design to a size, it's based on how these dogs are actually built, not how someone assumed they might be.

The more dogs we hear from, the more accurate — and inclusive — our picture becomes. Every submission matters.

The Staffy Collective is the founding community behind Big Dogs Blouse. Before we produce a single garment — if we produce a garment — we're building the most accurate database of Staffy and Bully breed body measurements ever assembled — contributed by owners around the world.

And we mean real measurements — taken from real dogs, with a tape measure, against their actual body. Not estimates, not approximations, not "he's probably a medium." The integrity of what we're building depends entirely on the accuracy of what people submit.

The data decides whether we build — and if we do, every measurement you provide shapes the design. You can join by submitting your dog's measurements here.

Honestly, we don't know yet — and that's the point. We're ready to go, but we're not releasing clothing until the data tells us we should. Most dog clothing brands guess at sizing, or copy what's already on the market. We're doing it differently: collecting real measurements first, then deciding whether there's a problem worth solving.

If the numbers confirm what we suspect — that this is a genuine, widespread fit problem that no one has properly designed for — then we build.

Submitting your dog's measurements is how we find out.

Your personal details and your dog's measurements are used solely for sizing research and will never be shared or sold. Ever.

Photos work a little differently. If you submit photos of your dog (and remember, that's completely optional), by default you're giving us permission to use those images in our marketing and social media — including as the basis for AI-generated imagery.

Essentially, we may feature your dog to help tell the story of why this clothing needs to exist.

If you'd prefer your dog's photos not be used in marketing or social media, you can opt out — just tick the checkbox on the submission form and your photos will be used for sizing research only, with no public use of any kind.

Keep in mind, we're dog people first. Your dog will only ever appear at their absolute best — we're in the business of making Staffies and Bully breeds look magnificent, not silly.

Founding Members are the people who submit their measurements now, before a single garment exists — building the data foundation that any future design would be based on. If Big Dogs Blouse goes into production, it's because of you.

If we do build, every Founding Member of The Staffy Collective gets 20% off — an acknowledgement that you were here at the start, when there was nothing to buy and no guarantee there ever would be.

And from our very first production run, we'll be giving away 10 complete premium jackets to Founding Members — one for each of 10 people drawn from those who join now. Consider it our way of saying thank you to the dogs who made it possible.

Submit your dog's measurements to become a Founding Member now.

It's simple, and it takes about two minutes.

Head to the measurement form on our homepage, enter your dog's name, breed, and three measurements — neck, chest, and back length. If you have photos, you're welcome to include those too, though they're completely optional.

That's it. Once you submit, you're a Founding Member of The Staffy Collective for life — with all the benefits that come with it if we build.

Your dog's measurements
help us answer the question.

We're collecting real measurements from Staffies and Bully breed owners around the world. If the data confirms the problem is as widespread as we think — we build. It only takes 2 minutes, and we really appreciate it.
